Competitions
2025, the innovations and developments from the baking, confectionery and snack industry will be presented at the leading global trade fair. From 18 May to 22 May 2025, visitors to the Düsseldorf Exhibition Centre in Hall 14, A13 will be able to see the tricks of the trade for themselves and attend the award ceremonies.
The iba UIBC Cup of Bakers
In 2025, the best bakers in six international teams took on the ultimate challenge: creating edible masterpieces under time pressure.
The participating countries were: Germany, France, Iceland, Jordan, the Netherlands and Sweden.
The participants were judged by an expert jury chaired by Andreas Schmidt (member of our Executive Board and responsible for vocational training). Other jury members were Urs Röthlin (Switzerland), Jimmy Griffin (Ireland) and Josef Schrott (Austria).
The winners are:

The iba UIBC Cup of Confectioners
In addition to the iba.UIBC Cup of Bakers, the iba.UIBC Cup of Confectioners took place again in 2025.
The participating countries were: Albania, Germany, Korea, Mexico and Vietnam.
The participants were judged by an expert jury chaired by Rene Klinkmüller (Germany). Other jury members were Antonio Carlos Henriques (Brazil), Remy Corbet Daniel Jean (Norway) and Marios Papadopoulos (Greece).
The winners:
Seok Kim and Kyung Joo Jang from Korea won the gold medal in the confectionery category.
German championship of master bakers
The teams that came out on top in the preliminary rounds competed against each other in the grand final at iba. This year's theme was ‘Passion’.
Yannik Dittmar and Sebastian Brücklmaier prevailed against their competitors.
Award of honour of the German bakery trade
The German bakery trade's prize of honour was awarded to companies in the industry that have achieved outstanding quality.
In 2025, a total of 50 guild bakeries were honoured, including a bakery from Munich. You will soon be able to view the detailed list of winners here.
World Championship of Bread Sommeliers
In autumn 2023, the Akademie Deutsches Bäckerhandwerk Weinheim offered an international course to become a ‘Certified Bread Sommelier’ for the first time. Participants from various countries such as the USA, Norway, Brazil, Ireland, Aruba in the Caribbean and New Zealand successfully completed the course in September 2024.
Grand final at iba 2025
The graduates who qualified for the final of the ‘World Championship of Bread Sommeliers’ competed against each other at iba in May.

iba Trophy
The DBZ magazine, together with an expert jury, awarded the traditional prize. Exhibitors were honoured for supporting and advancing the bakery trade with innovative developments and solutions in various categories.
The shining winners were announced on Tuesday, 20 May 2025.

iba Award
With this award, Backtechnik Europe honoured innovations for the industrial and line-oriented production of baked goods that were presented to the international industry for the first time at the trade fair.
